This workout for improving your turnout for ballet. These are all of my favorite exercises, and if done regularly, you should see huge improvements in strength and flexibility. You can choose your way of doing the routine as I have included both a workout and overview of the exercises.

I am a former ballerina with the New York City Ballet. When I was a young student, I was always looking for insights into the ballet world and how to improve my dancing as well as beauty and lifestyle tips. Now that I am a professional, it is my turn to share.

  3. I really loved this video! It is great and the standing exercises i’d never heard of before have been really helpful! I was wondering if you could do a back strengthening and loosening workout for getting a higher arabesque as i really struggle with arabesque and keeping them square- thank you 🙂

  4. I love your videos! They are so insightful! Could you please do a video on how to improve extension–I have decent flexibility, but when I do a develope my leg is barely above 90*. If I really try to push the hight I feel like I am gripping and my quads want to take over. How can I overcome this? Thank u!! A general flexibility one, and how to improve arabesque would be appreciated also!:)

  5. thanks so much for uploading this video! can you do one for inner thighs as well? my teacher tells me turnout and inner thighs are interconnected and its difficult for me to work both turnout and inner thighs when im weak at them both

I absolutely love all of your workouts!  I’ve been doing your 20 min. leg toning video everyday – in addition to these technique-related workouts, such as this one – I’ve noticed SUCH an improvement in my technique overall. The information you give us throughout all of these workouts is so valuable, even those tiny adjustments you suggest for stretches I’ve done for years – it makes ALL the difference!  Plus, you’re a very kind and sophisticated young lady – thus; I never grow tired of following along with your videos.   12. Hi! I just wanted to ask if your feet are somewhat flat? Mine are and I just like knowing that maybe a dancer as amazing as you has feet like me. It kind of gives me hope lol!

    if you are curvier with bigger thighs, does that greatly impact your turnout?

  16. I did this once, and I already noticed a HUGE difference in my turnout. Even my fondues and developés(?) got so much better! I did this today and I’m so excited to see how much I will improve ?? gonna make this part of my routine for sure ??

  18. When I do hip circles, my hips crack or like I hear bones moving and it’s a tad painful. I’m assuming my hips are really tight??

    • Brenda – go to a chiropractor and get a placement done, it really helps (or ask anyone who went to school in that field)
