Omg I’ve seen the second scenario play out in real life, some cops trying to talk a mentally ill person down and get them to go back to a psychiatric hospital they run away from and some “cop watch” A-holes turning up with cameras making it harder. The person did eventually calm and went back to hospital but it took so much longer because of the cameras and strangers around.
TaeSungPark all the police should do is tell them to get behind the police line then set it it up a few hundred feet away. Then they could arrest him for crossing it

There is is no guarantee that just because you live in a free country, you will never have to prove who you are or proven you can drive a car, or prove you are not intoxicated, or prove you have insurance. The only guarantee is that if you obey the laws of the land and obey the officers who are paid by our society to enforce the laws of the land, then you can pretty much come and go wherever and whenever you please. Please don’t talk about police state. You dumbtards have no idea what a police state looks like. This country is not perfect but you can go to bed at night and sleep with very little chance of the government coming and dragging you off to never be seen or heard from again. Well, they don’t have to comply with their questions, and the fact that no one gave their badge number or name shows the cops were behaving illegally.
If they are being detained, they are indeed expected to comply in certain ways. If you’re suggesting cops have to give their names and badge numbers while literally in the process of detaining someone, that is incorrect. No, they don’t “have to” comply with their questions, but the result of not doing so is…being detained. My point was only that repeating the same thing over and over again is not going to cause a different result.
